Congressman Todd Akin: “It seems to be, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, it’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.”
State Delegate Todd Gilbert: “Forcing women to have an ultrasound before an abortion is justified because they already made the decisions to be vaginally penetrated when they got pregnant”
Senate Candidate Tom Smith compares a pregnancy caused by rape to having a baby out of wedlock.
State Senator Glenn Grothman: “Women make less because ‘Money is more important for men’”
State Representative Alan Dick : “If I thought that the man’s signature was required… required, in order for a woman to have an abortion, I’d have a little more peace about it…”
State Representative Chuck Winder: “I would hope that when a woman goes in to a physician with a rape issue, that physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage, was this pregnancy caused by normal relations in a marriage or was it truly caused by a rape. I assume that’s part of the counseling that goes on.”
State Senator Glenn Grothman: “In promoting those campaigns and materials, the board shall emphasize nonmarital parenthood as a contributing factor to child abuse and neglect.”Democrats have their fair share of scandal, usually personal, often financial. The kind of stuff you expect from people in power. But i’ve never been ashamed of my alignment. I honestly don’t understand how decent people ( and there are plenty of decent conservatives ) can turn a blind eye to the horrible way Republican politicians are spreading their misogynistic venom.
Those politicians don’t care what a liberal like me thinks, but you good hearted republicans need to be the ones to speak out against this attack. These people think they represent you, they speak for you. If you don’t support what the poison they are spreading, speak up!Having to read about this shit every day and knowing that they were elected and people still want to vote for them hurts me. It hurts my heart and it hurts my head to know that people honestly feel this way and are trying to police my body and it blows my mind that a parent - someone with a daughter - could feel this way about the subject. If your child came to you and told you that they were raped would you feel the same? Would you assume that they were lying? If your daughter asked you why she was not paid as much as a man doing the same job, would you tell her that she just didn’t need the money as much as a man and was therefore less deserving of it - even if she was more qualified than him? Would you tell her that since she has to take birth control for medical reasons (or ANY reasons) that she may as well be a porn star and tape it for the world to see? Would you tell her that she has to ask her rapist for permission to have an abortion? Would you tell her that she decided to be raped? Would you tell her that it’s her fault she was pregnant after she got raped because she obviously wanted the baby?
Because that’s the kind of mental abuse that will fuck a child up for life. And that is ABUSE. Plain and simple. My parents divorced when I was 4 but my mother and father still taught me to be a better person than that - and I don’t need a god to tell me that you’re failing as a parent if you actually agree with any of the questions I have asked you. I don’t care if you’ve put a roof over your child’s head and fed them and made sure they’ve been to school - you’ve gone through the motions, but you’re still an abuser.
And if you refuse to speak out against them but continue to support their party then you are giving them a silent, implicit approval for their actions, statements and viewpoints. Your decision not to vote - even if you planned to vote for them - isn’t helping anything either. Apathy is not an excuse.

White privilege is using the claim that the Irish were once “oppressed” as a way to deny our white privilege, yet totally ignoring the fact that the Irish violently rioted against blacks to become white.

Poor Lil Paul Ryan of the Day: GOP vice presidential pick Paul Ryan is a huge Rage Against the Machine fan.
The feeling isn’t exactly mutual, as a brutal op-ed in the latest Rolling Stone by Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello makes clear:Paul Ryan’s love of Rage Against the Machine is amusing, because he is the embodiment of the machine that our music has been raging against for two decades. …
I wonder what Ryan’s favorite Rage song is? Is it the one where we condemn the genocide of Native Americans? The one lambasting American imperialism? Our cover of “F**k the Police”? Or is it the one where we call on the people to seize the means of production? So many excellent choices to jam out to at Young Republican meetings!
Don’t mistake me, I clearly see that Ryan has a whole lotta “rage” in him: A rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment. Basically the only thing he’s not raging against is the privileged elite he’s groveling in front of for campaign contributions.
